Insurance Coverage
As a fully licensed, bonded and insured painting company, you know you're safe when you work with KD Painting & Services. All of our employees are covered by workers compensation insurance, and we carry $2 million in general liability insurance for your protection.
The KD Painting & Services Exterior Painting Process
- Painting crews are headed by crew leaders who have worked with KD Painting & Services for at least 10 years. Our crew leaders work alongside our skilled painters who all have years of professional painting experience.
- Before we begin painting, KD Painting & Services schedules with you the day and time your project will begin and end.
- During your project, KD Painting & Services crews begin work between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. We work full eight hour days so that your job gets done on time.
Exterior Paint Color Selection
- If you already have chosen your paint colors, let KD Painting & Services know and we'll order your new paint for you. However, if you're still deciding, KD Painting & Services can assist you in color selection.
- Because choosing the right colors for your home and business is so important, we'll make an appointment to paint a large test patch of your new exterior paint.
Pre-Painting Information
- Before our crew arrives to paint, please move furniture, firewood, lawn ornaments or other items away from the side of your home.
- We always protect your yard and pavement, and we ask that you help us identify the best location (such as a garage or patio) for our tools and equipment.

Painting Preparation by KD Painting & Services
Pressure Washing
- Pressure washing is the first step in our complete painting preparation service. Using a high-powered stream of water, pressure washing removes dirt, loose paint and debris from your home and leaves clean painting surfaces.
- Because of the wet winters in Solano County and the Bay Area, KD Painting & Services uses Mold Avenger, a biodegradable mold and mildew treatment, to remove mold and mildew and keep it from reappearing. Unlike bleach or harsh chemicals, Mold Avenger is biodegradable and safe for use around plants and animals.
- Before KD Painting & Services begins pressure washing your home, please advise us if there are any leaky windows and areas where we should use extra caution to keep water from entering your home.
Scraping & Sanding
- After we pressure wash your home, KD Painting & Services will scrape and sand exterior areas that need extra preparation. Scraping removes any remaining loose paint.
- Sanding prepares unpainted and slippery surfaces for painting. KD Painting & Services often sands before applying latex paint to help the paint adhere to the surface.
- KD Painting & Services also sands around damaged areas being repainted or repaired. This helps smooth the transition between the existing paint and new paint and makes paint touch ups less noticeable.
Caulking
- KD Painting & Services uses top-grade calking to fill in gaps and cracks that are 1/8 inch or smaller.
- We strip out old calking and reapply new calk to all areas that had been calked, including door frames and window trim.
- KD Painting & Services does not generally calk the cracks between wood siding panels because as they heat and cool, the siding panels shift and calking cracks and pulls away from the siding. However, KD Painting & Services will replace failing calking that has already been applied to wood siding.
Primer Application
- Painting primer is applied to all bare surfaces, such as wood and metal, prior to painting. Primer is a protective barrier that shields metal and wood from the elements and helps the paint stick to the surface for a longer-lasting paint job.
Stucco Preparation
- KD Painting & Services scrapes and sands all loose paint from stucco siding and calks any small cracks in the stucco. Larger cracks, those that are 1/8 to 1/2 inch, are filled with stucco patching material.
- Holes that are deep or larger than an inch in diameter must be patched before KD Painting & Services arrives to paint unless you have made prior arrangements for repairs.
Taping and Masking
- KD Painting & Services takes care to protect your windows, doors and other areas that are not to be painted. Before we paint, KD Painting & Services masks all windows, doors, roof line and the ground around the area to be painted with plastic sheeting that will remain in place until the spraying is complete. This protects those areas from overspray.
- We will also cover any trees and plants that surround the house. Be aware that some plants may need to be trimmed back so they don't interfere with the painting. We make every effort to keep paint from getting on plants and trees.
Painting
- KD Painting & Services uses the highest grades of paint from top paint companies Kelly Moore, Sherwin-Williams and ICI and applies a custom number of coats depending on the paint color, painted surface and any texturing. We will outline with you the number of coats and type of paint to be used before we begin painting.
- KD Painting & Services sprays on paint whenever possible. This provides a more even application. We do back roll paint into areas such as thick stucco and wood to thoroughly coat those areas.
Clean Up
- At the completion of your exterior painting job, KD Painting & Services walks through your home with you in order to confirm total satisfaction.
- We completely clean up around all painted areas, including removal of all paint chips and debris removed by pressure washing and scraping.

- KD Painting & Services schedules with you the day your project will begin and end.

Painting Preparation by KD Painting & Services
- KD Painting & Services carefully covers all furniture and flooring with drop cloths and plastic sheeting to protect your home during painting.
- We carefully prepare the rooms to be painted by filling and patching nail holes, repair cracked plaster, scrub and sand wall surfaces and scrape away any old paint that is chipping.
- KD Painting & Services carefully masks all trim, windows and other areas that are not to be painted. We also remove faceplates from outlets and light switches.
- We carefully cover all furniture, light fixtures and flooring with drop cloths and plastic sheeting to protect your home and belongings during painting.
Painting
- KD Painting & Services uses the highest grades of paints by top paint companies Kelly Moore, Sherwin-Williams and ICI. We will outline with you the number of coats before we begin painting.
Clean Up
- At the completion of your interior painting job, KD Painting & Services walks through your home with you in order to confirm total satisfaction.
- We completely clean up all painted areas and help you move your furniture back into place. KD Painting & Services also replaces faceplates.
